2006 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new lineup sets new standards for compacts. introductionit's hard to find a more competitive new car market than the compact class. And it's more than just price, as the number of entries has skyrocketed in recent years.  honda once led the class, in every measure that mattered, from performance to price to quality to pizzazz. And just as important image-wise, honda led the hot, sport compact niche. With the redesigned, restyled, rejuvenated 2006 honda civic models, the company has returned to the fray with renewed energy.  across the line, there's more power, improved ride and handling, and better people packaging. There are more choices as well: a sporty new civic si coupe, a fully populated tier of coupes and sedans with new engines and transmissions, and a more efficient and effective hybrid sedan. In between there's a sedan listing at $15,560 with the new five-speed automatic. The si starts at $20,290. There are other cars in the class that undercut these figures, but the civic includes important safety features, including antilock brakes and side-impact airbags as standard equipment, that many others leave on the option list. lineuphonda doesn't hold back when it comes to fleshing out a model line. A performance-oriented coupe, the si, comes with a 197-horsepower, 2. 0-liter inline-4 fitted with a six-speed manual. Standard equipment is confined to power windows, tilt-and-telescope steering wheel and height-adjustable driver's seat. Added to the no-extra-charge features on the lx are power moonroof; variable windshield wipers; a second 12-volt power outlet; a 60/40 split folding rear seatback; a seven-speaker, 350-watt, xm-ready, premium stereo with auxiliary input jack and steering wheel-mounted controls; and outside temperature indicator. There are few options available and honda positions its options packages and automatic transmissions as separate models, so for example, there is the civic coupe ex with navigation and automatic transmission 21,010) and the similarly equipped sedan version 20,760).  the si coupe 20,290) comes with all the gear found on the lx coupe plus leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, amber-tinted headlight trim rings and a body-colored rear wing spoiler. The si coupe is available with high-performance summer tires and the navigation system with xm satellite radio 22,240).  the hybrid sedan 22,150) adds to the lx's features automatic climate control, a roof-mounted radio antenna, a rear decklid spoiler, and hybrid-pertinent digital data displays. The hybrid is available with the navigation system 23,650).  dealer accessories include 16-inch alloy wheels 876), chrome exhaust tips 119), and aero-style, exterior body add-ons for the sedan. Honda factory performance packages are available for the si, one for the lx and ex coupes and sedans. The si hfp package includes lowered springs, more tautly tuned shocks, a sports muffler, 18-inch alloy wheels, a full lower-body aero kit and the hfp emblem 3880). The lx and ex hfp package for the coupe 3183) and sedan 3680) substitutes 17-inch alloy wheels, drops the muffler and adds a rear spoiler. Installation costs extra and is set by dealers. walkaroundhonda re-did everything for 2006. Not only are powertrains updated and upgraded, and a new platform developed, but the sheetmetal is new. Not a single body panel is carried over from 2005.  the sedans and coupes don't share any body panels. And trim elements and markings distinguish each iteration.  the platform underneath is new for 2006, seriously strengthened in rigidity, stiffness and crash absorption capacities, with minor adjustments to accommodate the varying dimensions of the coupe and sedan body styles. As part of its campaign to revitalize the civic's appeal to the sport compact market, honda has incorporated reinforced mounting points and gussets to allow suspension and certain other modifications without diminishing body integrity.  from the front, styling differences are subtle, but marked. A polished, horizontal bar dominates the sedan grille. Slender headlamp assemblies angle upwards as they curve around the fenders. A single, broad air intake fills the lower portion of the fascia.  the coupe grille appears more open, with the honda logo suspended on a matte-black framework. An understated badge tucked away in the far right reaches of the grille identifies the sporty si version. The coupe headlights are more sharply outlined. The lower air intake opens between two, geometric recesses that feed cooling air to the front disc brakes and house the optional fog lamps.  the front ends, but especially the coupes', push the leading corners down and outward, emphasizing the 2006's wider track (the distance side to side between the tires), which grows by more than an inch in front and by more than two inches in back over the 2005's.  save for a lower body character line, drawn slightly higher on the coupe than on the sedan, the sides of the new civic are more slab than sensuous. Understated fender blisters, more pronounced on the coupe, break up the otherwise featureless expanse. What excitement there is in the side view is in the sleekness of what honda calls a monoform design. A central expression of this is the windshield, the leading edge of which reaches into the hood all the way to the middle of the front wheel wells, pushing the design concept of 'cab forward' to a new extreme. On the coupe, the windshield is raked at a radical 21. 9 degrees, markedly steeper than the '05's 26. 7 degrees, even exceeding the acura nsx's 23. 9 degrees. And the sedan's matches the nsx's, dropping from the '05's 29. 1 degrees. The sail (the body panel aft of the rear side window) is unique to each model as well. The coupe's forms an acute angle emphasizing the two-door body style, while the sedan's curves down over the rear door's trailing edge, pulling the eye through the higher roofline. The coupe's be-spoilered, rounded rear profile suggests swiftness. The sedan's somewhat abbreviated trunk lid and chopped off tail end adds perceived mass to the tightly proportioned, smallish sedan.  likewise, the rear view of each body style differs markedly. The coupe's sloping trunk lid settles into a deep cut in the rear bumper, with the license plate sheltered in an equally deep recess. The sedan's trunk lid drops in an almost vertical, unrelieved sheer from a relatively high crest across the top, all very bmw-like in presence. interiorif the 2006 civic's exterior is new, the '06's interior borders on shocking. First impression of the instrument arrangement is of a video game. Controls are for the most part where they should be, but not necessarily as they should be. There's little symmetry in organization or shape of features and interfaces. It's not an unpleasant look, but one that requires some acclimation. Ironically, perhaps, the interiors are indistinguishable across the full line, with only minor differences necessitated by the different powertrains.  splayed across the top of the seemingly unending dash in front of the driver is a hooded opening with a digital speedometer between lcd coolant temperature and fuel level gauges. Down below, in the more common place for the instrument panel, in the half circle formed by the top half of the steering wheel, that is, there's a large, round, analog tachometer. To each side of this lower ip are large, irregular vent registers. Centered in the dash above the climate control panel is either an lcd window combining the navigation display and audio settings and, in the hybrid, a selection of graphic depictions of the hybrid system's functions and status or a stereo control head with the pertinent accoutrements. To the right of this squished pod-like arrangement, the dash curves away from the front seat passenger and houses two, more horizontally oriented vent registers, again neither of which matches the other. A wide, but not especially deep glove box rests below a cabin-wide, clam shell-like notch dividing the upper and lower halves of the dash.  there is no center stack to speak of tying together the dash and the drive tunnel.

2013 honda civic review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Restyled, refined, retuned suspension, back on track. introductionthe honda civic began its ninth generation with the 2012 model, which was disappointing on account of cost-cutting. The 2013 civic sedan is changed a bit, becoming what the 2012 should have been, with a pretty exterior, snazzy interior, satisfying suspension, and a cabin full of tricks from bluetooth to pandora.  the nose, hood, black honeycomb grille and angled headlamps are pleasing to the eye, with a humped hood and raked windshield that draw attention. The side sills are sculpted smartly, and with body-colored mirrors and door handles, the civic looks classy, especially with the optional alloy wheels. The rear fenders flow nicely into a horizontal v over each side of the rear bumper.  in the cabin there's a ton of standard content, such as bluetooth phone and bluetooth audio, pandora internet radio interface and mp3, usb, ipod and sms text message capability. There's a nice color multi-information display (i-mid) with rearview camera.  the fabric upholstery is excellent, with seats that are well shaped, nicely bolstered and widely adjustable. The standard 60/40 split-folding rear seatback expands cargo capacity. We put a six-footer in the rear seat, and he didn't complain about legroom or headroom.  interior refinements include a new headliner and soft-touch materials on the instrument panel, center console, and door panels. Silver accents here and there, along with faux stitching on the dashboard and door panels, add a touch of upscale. Black carpeting is standard. The colorful instrument backlighting is soothing.  significantly, nvh (noise, vibration and harshness) has been improved over the 2012. More sound deadening material has been added to the firewall, wheel wells, flooring and trunk, while the windshield and front windows are thicker, all in the successful pursuit of silence. On the inside, the civic neither feels nor sounds like a mere $20,000 car.  we found the i-vtec 140-horsepower engine with its 128 foot-pounds of torque to be adequate. Acceleration performance is average but feels stronger because the engine is smooth and cabin quiet. The 5-speed automatic transmission is programmed to be invisible, while the ride is solid and comfortable. There's an econ mode that remaps the engine and transmission for fuel mileage over power. We easily ran 75 mph in econ and impressively got 32. 1 miles per gallon.  the suspension has been reworked for 2013 with thicker anti-roll bars front and rear, quicker steering, and firmer bushings. The front subframe body structure is stiffer. We've had it on the track and its performance is marvelous.  there are also three high-mileage versions of the civic. The civic hf uses a specially tuned version of the same 1. 8-liter engine to achieve an epa-rated 29/41 mpg city/highway, compared to 28/39 mpg for the civic lx and ex. It gets 27/38 mpg on the cheaper fuel. Fuel economy is rated at 44/44 mpg. The bare bones and most affordable model, dx, has been discontinued: dee-xed.  new safety technologies built into the 2013 civic include the application of the next-gen advanced compatibility engineering ii (ace ii) body structure, which includes additional front end structures designed to help increase occupant protection by dispersing crash energy in narrow overlap frontal crashes. Also new are smartvent side airbags, side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor and the availability of forward collision warning (fcw) and lane departure warning (ldw) systems, which make their compact-class debut in the 2013 civic hybrid. lineupthe 2013 honda civic comes in six models. The sporty civic si uses a high-revving 2. 4-liter and 6-speed gearbox, coupe or sedan. Civic hf features a hybrid gas-electric powertrain tuned for high gas mileage. Civic gx runs on natural gas.  civic lx sedan 18,165) and lx coupe 17,965) come standard with 5-speed manual transmission, fabric upholstery, air conditioning with air-filtration system, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power everything, bluetooth, color multi-information display with rearview camera, usb/ipod connection, pandora interface, sms text feature, and steering wheel audio controls. The 5-speed automatic is available for the civic lx sedan 18,965) and lx coupe 18,765).  civic ex sedan 20,815) comes standard with the 5-speed automatic. All civic ex models include a six-speaker audio system, 60/40 split rear seat, and power moonroof. Opting for the civic ex sedan navi 23,765) adds navigation and xm radio.  civic ex-l 22,265) coupe or sedan upgrades with leather upholstery and heated front seats. Civic ex-l navi 23,765) include navigation and xm.  civic hf sedan 19,765) is designed for maximum fuel efficiency with an economy tuned engine and 5-speed automatic.  civic gx sedan 24,465) burns natural gas.  civic hybrid 24,360) uses a gas-electric powertrain with cvt and is available with leather 25,560), navi 25,860), or both 27,060).  civic si sedan 22,715) and coupe 22,515) feature a high-performance 2. 4-liter engine and 6-speed manual. The 2013 civic actually catches some eyes with its changes. We got comments about the car's good looks, driving an ex for one week.  honda had made a decision to go with the austerity times on the redesigned 2012 sedan, which sported new fascias and character lines, but nothing bold. (the previous-generation civic was the bold one, and its then-radical aerodynamics flow through to the 2013 model.) by playing it close to the vest, the class-leading civic sedan was upstaged in all directions; witness the skyactiv mazda3, stylish ford focus, and the hyundai elantra, a swoopy good deal. So for 2013 honda responds with a rapid comeback, starting with the body makeover of the sedan. (meanwhile, the coupe, with its own identity, doesn't get changed because there was no demand to change it.)  the nose and tail are new, up to the hood and trunk lid. The black honeycomb mesh grill looks serious, if disguised, undermined by a thin chrome smile and half-hidden behind the mundane (but universally recognizable) honda emblem. We could do without the gratuitous horizontal chrome strip within the fascia.  the a-pillars have been thinned, but the steep rake of the windshield is untouched. The side sills are sculpted smartly; with body-colored mirrors and door handles, the civic looks classy. But not the lx with its awful plastic wheelcovers. Honda designers did good on bumpers. At the tail above the bumper, it's restyled but still ordinary, even with big new two-piece taillamps. We could do without the gratuitous horizontal chrome strip across the trunk. But that's a generic statement; we could say that about every car.  some less noticeable parts of the body have also been changed, especially the front floor and upper wheel housing. Fifty-percent of the body is high-strength steel, providing a rigid structure and light weight. interiorin the cabin there's much new content to bring the 2013 civic upscale to match its competitors. However, there's some sleight of hand, because much of what's now standard in all models got there by discontinuing the low-cost bare-bones dx. There's a new and classy all-black interior color. The seats are well shaped, nicely bolstered and widely adjustable. The most useful information is repeated at the top of the dash, allowing the driver to scan without taking his or her eyes much off the road. Forward sightlines, even over that cool humped hood, are excellent. We appreciated the thinner windshield pillars, and small window set in the angle where the pillar intersects the car's hood. A lot of new cars have thick a-pillars that can obstruct the driver's view of pedestrians and other vehicles, but not here.  the i-mid, or intelligent multi-information display, uses a toggle on the leather-wrapped steering wheel that enables the driver to scroll through a variety of vehicle info. 2009 honda fit review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. All-new model is a perfect fit. introductionthe small car is king. Truly, in this time of gas price roller coaster rides, environmental activism and economic uncertainty, people who can make the switch to small and efficient vehicles are doing so, and in droves. To that end, they've kept the fit fresh, giving it a redo just two years after its debut in north america as a 2007 model.  changes for 2009 include a new, more upscale and driver-friendly exterior design and an improved interior with better materials and seats.  about those seats. When it debuted for the 2007 model year, the fit immediately become known for its amazingly configurable interior. Called the magic seat, because of the multitude of ways in which the second row could be folded, this feature remains largely unchanged for the 2009 model year, the only difference being the deletion of the 'refresh' mode as one of the possible configurations, and the addition of a secret compartment at the seat bottom.  other improvements for 2009 include better performance and slightly more power on the road. The 1. 5-liter engine delivers 117-horsepower at 6600 rpm and 106 pound-feet of torque at 4800 rpm. lineupthe 2009 honda fit comes in two models with three trim variations, fit, fit sport 16,060), and fit sport with navi 17,910). The primary differences center around equipment and technology upgrades. The sport comes with a five-speed automatic or five-speed automatic transmission with sport mode and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters 16,910).  the fit sport with navi 17,910) comes with manual transmission or five-speed automatic with paddle shifters 18,760). The fit sport with navi adds satellite navigation and vehicle stability assist (vsa).  safety features on all models include front and side airbags and side curtain airbags. walkaroundthough the fit has always been considered modern, few people considered the outgoing 2008 model stylish. That changes with the 2009 honda fit, thanks to a new style that's functional and attractive, with sharply styled headlights, larger front quarter windows and a more aerodynamic front design.  the improved look makes the fit arguably the most appealing small car in its class, avoiding some of the quirks found on competitors such as the scion xd while improving the practical nature of the car, ala more visibility. Additional design changes for 2009 include a wider stance, more aggressive fender flares and sharper character lines along the side. interiorsince it debuted in 2007, what's inside the fit has been perhaps its most talked about feature, in good and bad ways. Case in point: while the seats configure into a multitude of handy ways, the quality of the materials left many wanting.  for the 2009 model year, honda has improved critical elements of the interior while leaving the awesome utility of the little car mostly intact. The large knobs that control the environment and settings curve around the stereo controls on the driver's side, making the design stylish and easy to reach, though the plastic controls felt a bit thin to the touch.  another high point of the new interior are the in-dash cupholders and split glovebox, though both upper and lower boxes are too small to be of much use. Even with all these changes, the best thing about the fit hasn't changed much: magic seats. There's even a small storage compartment under the seats for small items.  space inside the cabin ranges is almost-spacious in front and adequate in back, especially for a car this size. Visibility from the driver's seat is excellent. The side mirrors are 30 percent larger than those on the outgoing model. The most noticeable difference is up front, where a broader front windshield and close-up seating improve sightlines and feel for the road. Slender roof pillars front and rear minimize blind spots and create a more airy feel to the cabin. driving impressionthe fit is fun to drive. For everyday driving it's an obedient and comfortable conveyance, thanks to new seats and suspension changes that smoothed out the previous model's ride.  while the fit's power supply is modest, we found driving a model with either the manual transmission or automatic with paddle shifters upped the fun meter by allowing drivers to dip down into the vehicle's torque band when needed.  fit delivers an epa-estimated 27/30 miles per gallon city/highway, so it's a nice fit between fun-to-drive and frugality.  case in point: on twisty corners, the fit is much more fun, and almost as efficient as the scion xd or nissan versa. Most of the time, the rear of the car nicely follows the front, even under aggressive duress, and with a new electric steering set up that's improved, but still lacks touch, the fit communicates its intent clearly, if not with authority. Drawbacks include a noisy and thrashy ride, slightly numb steering and a small (split) glovebox.  brian chee filed this report to newcartestdrive. Com after his test drive of the honda fit models in southern california. model lineuphonda fit 14,550); honda fit sport 16,060); honda fit sport navi 17,910). assembled insuzuka, japan. options as testednone. model testedhonda fit sport navi 17,910). The honda fit distinguishes itself from all other subcompacts with agile handling, zippy performance, and impressive practicality. Electronic vehicle stability control is now optional on the fit sport. The honda fit is completely redesigned for 2009, which adds more interior space and new standard equipment such as telescoping steering column, active head restraints, dual vanity mirrors and a driver's footrest.
